My story takes place in Southern Spain in the 1500’s. The tragic tale follows a lonely and cursed gypsy who longs for a husband. one night she cries to the moon to give her a husband. The moon complies and asks to receive the gypsy’s firstborn child in return. Her unwitting contract with the moon eventually leads to her death.
As this is a tragic story and all of the scenes take place at night, my color palette is subdued with no vibrant colors. The color scheme is warm and earthy to emphasize the gypsy’s connection to nature. The purples used in the background add to the gloomy and mystical feel of the night.
Compositional Color Studies in gouache:
In my first color studies the moon was covered, I made it fully visible in the final to give it more power as a character.

I am a developing artist and illustrator. I work mainly in graphite, colored pencil and ink. My work varies from expressive renderings of internal personal and spiritual experiences to imaginative depictions of fantastical characters.
One of my main goals as an artist is to communicate positive, inspirational and encouraging messages to the viewer. I strive to do this utilizing imaginative narratives and characters in my illustrations. I want to be able to as an artist inspire young minds to always try to think positively about the world that we live in and the people we share it with. I would like for my work to inspire others to value themselves as purpose-driven, precious and unique individuals.
At present I would like to expand my body of work in the area of fine art. As a teen art making was a major form of expression for what I couldn’t get out in words. As years went by I stopped making artworks for myself, but I am working to delve deeper into that expressive artist in me. My art has helped me reconcile with difficult and painful situations as well as commemorate beautiful and joyful experiences. I am trying to express meaningful life situations and abstract emotions through symbolic, emotional and spiritual imagery in my fine artworks.
I am also currently working towards a long-term goal of creating an illustrated young-adult novel involving a character who goes on an adventure of discovery and enlightenment described through a fantastical external voyage. In order to discover her self-worth and transform her outlook on her life situation, she must face confrontations symbolic of internal and external emotional struggles. This path of discovery will finally enable her to emerge victorious as a more mature, assertive and optimistic individual. My own life experiences and struggles as well as those of people I know who are fighting these battles are the basis for my inspiration on this project.
