Having been drawn to art and comic works from a young age, I now continue the tradition of visual storytelling in my own illustration work. My favored process employs the strong use of line to create worlds. I alternate between traditional pen and ink and graphite pencils, as well as digital inking techniques. I believe that every detail within an illustration tells a story. With different details I can create two entirely different moods, messages, and worlds, even when illustrating the exact same thing.
I am drawn to the worlds of fantasy and science fiction, because they are metaphors for our own world. Imagining worlds other than our own reminds us of things to aspire towards, or to avoid. I like to include objects and details from our own world, however, as it reminds us that fantasy is rooted in our ordinary lives. To this end, I am inspired by the world’s myriad different cultures, legends, costumes, and technologies. There are so many fascinating things about our own world that people do not know about, because they rarely see them. I wish to illustrate the amazing things that are right outside people’s doors.
I continue to learn, move, and push the details of my pieces, as well as the research behind them, forming a constant study behind each of my illustrations. I wish to combine my artwork with forms of storytelling such as books or graphic novels. I feel it is a growing medium with a lot of potential and it is one I wish to explore.
